A truly ‘regal’ edition, in the memorable setting of the Reggia di Venaria in Venaria Reale, Turin, the one held on Monday 8 May, of the first Alta Langa’. Giribaldi took part with sixty other producers with more than 140 different cuvées for tasting, from the most recent vintage among those on the market, 2019, to those of longer ageing such as 2006. A total of 2000 people accredited to the event, already sold out a few days before and with a long waiting list.

Lychee, Spanish broom, stone fruit and botanical herb aromas come to the forefront on this dry, racy sparkler. On the elegantly structured, youthfully austere palate, a refined almost creamy perlage accompanies juicy white peach, pear, lemon and saline before closing on notes of pomegranate and brioche. A blend of 60% Pinot Nero and 40% Chardonnay, this has aromas of bread crust and dried stone fruit that shape the nose along with whiffs of grilled herb and forest floor. White stone fruit, chamomile and dried herb aromas mingle with whiffs of hazelnut and bread crust. Linear and elegantly structured, the palate offers yellow pear, golden apple and saline alongside crisp acidity and a polished, persistent perlage. It’s dry but has a slightly honeyed close. Sparkle 2021: 5 spheres of excellence for the Alta Langa docg 2016 Brut. Our Alta Langa among the best Italian bubbles is confirmed again this year.
Although the traditional event dedicated to the best dry sparkling wines in Italy has turned into a long themed online marathon, Sparke Day has become Sparkle Month (due to health emergency) An event that, year after year, has told the very high level achieved by domestic production.

Sparkle Day 2020

2,500 tastings, 844 selected wines, 89 the 5 spheres assigned, 32 Alta Langa tasted, 5 those that obtained the highest score: these are the numbers of the last edition of Sparkle 2020.

“For lovers of sparkling wine, Italy is now to be discovered and it doesn’t stop only in Trentino, Franciacorta and Oltrepò. In the evocative setting of the Westin Excelsior of Rome Dolce Vita style, the tasting that accompanied the assignment of the 5 Sparkle 2020 Spheres was rich of emotions, with reconfirmations and novelties, the result of a long work of selection conceived and conducted by Francesco D’Agostino . ”

Also this year our Alta Langa is reconfirmed, for the third time, among the best tastings as “wine not to be missed” and also getting the selection as “best price-value ratio” with the 2015 harvest, a Brut that has refined the second refermentation for 36 months: “elegant, rich nose, in continuous evolution of citrus fruits, toasts and pastry. The palate is velvety, full-bodied, of great harmony, with perfectly integrated freshness. ”

This year in the guide we find two of our Alta Langa: the Pas Dosè 60 months harvest 2013 which got 4 spheres and a half, touching the maximum score by participating in the finals, where, however, the superb 2015 was more convincing.
